We are thrilled to announce the publication of our journal article, \u201cTransforming Practice with HOPE (Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences),\u201d in Maternal and Child Health<\/em>. This paper was a team effort, led by Dr. Dina Burstein, HOPE Project Director. Other authors include: Chloe Yang, a research assistant working on HOPE; Kay Johnson, President of Johnson Group Consulting<\/a> and long-time HOPE collaborator; Dr. Jeff Linkenbach, Director of The Montana Institute<\/a> and co-Investigator with HOPE, and Dr. Robert Sege, HOPE National Resource Center Director. Thanks to all our collaborators for their work on this piece!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\u201cPositive childhood experiences (PCEs) have profound effects on health and development, buffering against and preventing the harms of toxic stress (Bethell et al., 2019). Efforts to translate this science into practice are needed and will improve the effectiveness of current approaches that focus on identifying risks and specific child and family problems.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences (HOPE) translates research findings about the effects of PCEs into clinical and organizational changes that support optimal development and resilience in the face of adversity. This paper describes the growing evidence that supports the health effects of positive childhood experiences, and uses these insights to promote a paradigm shift that will incorporate the identification, celebration, and support of PCEs as an integral part of caring for children and families. The HOPE-informed approach expands current care, shifting from a sole focus on adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) toward an additional focus on PCEs (Yang, 2021).\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
